Spunchem International, which is a joint venture between Monier and Strand group holdings, has been actively working towards environmentally positive products – namely Radiant Barriers.
In the South African market Spunchem, through its residential distributors, has a leading market share in the Undertile Membrane Market which it launched in 2005.
In order to enter the market of Radiant Barriers extensive R&D was required and investment in further capacity / technology was necessary which the shareholders were happy to support.
A short time line of these developments reveals the emphasis of Spunchem on new technology & processes.
Jan 2006 - 2008
Spunchem is now in a position to service industrial and technical segments of the spunbond market with its range of products. The Twintrac product range has isotropic physical strength not found in conventional spunbonds.
June 2008
A state- of-the-art 50 million square meter ‘Guns’ technology Spunbond plant was commissioned, bringing capacity to 150sqm of Spunbond.

Spunchem is now the market leader in spring pocket fabric in the U.K. Through a close association with our valued U.K. customers, a square fabric (in terms of physical properties and weight evenness) has been achieved. Demand for this product in the U.K. and the world market is vast, as it can be used to replace more expensive traditional fabrics.
JANUARY 2008
Spunchem has been actively engaged in developing fabric for our German customers, and are currently selling 2000 tons per annum for these applications. The joint development of this specialised product with our customer has been highly successful as a component of the final product.
APRIL 2001
Spunchem successfully installed an upgraded technology / output 5500 TPY Spunbond Plant, which increased total capacity to 8000 TPY. The new Plant included improvements developed through Spunchem's experience, as well as consultations with leading technical supports worldwide.
